HLTENN040 - Administer and Monitor Medicines and Intravenous Therapy

HERC are pleased to offer the HLTENN040 Administer and Monitor Medicines and Intravenous Therapy as a stand-alone unit for all Enrolled Nurses who would like to advance their current scope of practice to include administering and monitoring medications and intravenous (IV) therapy in line with the Australian Health Professional Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) requirements.

In this specialised short course, you will learn how to administer and monitor medicine and intravenous (IV) therapy as an Enrolled Nurse, including calculating dosage requirements, reading and applying written instructions from an authorised prescriber, assessing the person for medicine effectiveness and side effects, and responding to an allergic pharmacological reaction.

We are currently accepting expressions of interest for the unit. Please fill in the expression of interest form at the bottom of the page to be notified when the unit becomes available.

  • Applicants must be currently registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia and can supply evidence of current AHPRA registration
  • Applicants must supply evidence of their Enrolled Nurse qualification, including details of Units of Competency achieved
  • All students enrolling in this course are expected to have basic computer skills including the ability to use a computer or laptop, internet, email and a word processor.
  • Although HERC provide access to computers/laptops during our opening hours (Monday-Friday 9am-4pm), it is recommended that students have access to a laptop or computer they can use outside of these hours to work on their self-directed study.
  • Students must have an active email address for communication and be contactable by phone.
  • Given the online nature of the course, applicants are required to provide a current photo ID for verification purposes

The expected completion time for this unit is 12 weeks, though it may vary depending on each student's pace of self-directed learning.

The fee for the HLTENN040 Administer and Monitor Medicines and Intravenous Therapy unit is $2800.00.

If you are a ANMF member, the fee to undertake the unit is reduced to $2500.00. Not a member? Join now!

Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is an assessment of skills and knowledge you’ve acquired through previous training, work or life experience which are relevant to your course. RPL allows your provider to assess your existing competency against the requirements of the course. You can be granted part or all of a unit of competency by RPL. You can apply for RPL after enrolling.

You need to supply evidence to prove your skills and knowledge. You can use a variety of evidence to apply for RPL such as:

  • records of completed training
  • assessment items

RPL will be assessed on a case-by-case basis, however, a direct transition between units HLTEN507A, HLTEN507B and HLTEN507C have been established and, without additional assessment, the costing for this transition is outlined below:

ANMF Members: $1800
